Clara Vite

Abstract

The European Commission in 2018 set the goal of transforming small rural centres into Smart Villages through pilot projects and employing the guiding principle of the coexistence of tradition and innovation. In 2021, the Long-term Vision for EU Rural Areas was presented. Starting from analysing the potential and criticalities of rural areas proposes the development of a Rural Pact among numerous EU actors and an Action Plan articulated again on pilot initiatives. Another relevant theme in the international arena is promoting the establishment of Renewable Energy Communities. Such issues are central nowadays, and numerous international and national initiatives and funding programs support such areas of transformation and enhancement of small towns demonstrate it. The research intends to analyse the literature on Smart Villages and Renewable Energy Communities to define their evolution and establish a framework of studies and research in this area. The analysis of the reference literature was done using a bibliometric visualisation software, called CiteSpace, to highlight the research's evolution and determine its connections and trends.
